One of the most principled, ethical men I've ever known, he was the finest teacher I've ever had and later became my mentor and friend. Soak up everything you can possibly learn, and then some. If an idea or concept or a maybe even a whole subject seems to be total nonsense today, take it and tuck it somewhere in the back of your mind anyway as you might have use for it someday. He constantly reminded us never to just memorize material but to take the extra time to learn it through and through. Remember that whatever you learn over the next 4 years (and they'll seem to fly by) has to serve you for at least 40 more years. While popularity is a factor to some, most people have stopped caring about what their classmates think of them. It's a friendlier environment for the most part. Also, my studies interest me. Also, at my school I'm lucky enough to have amazing professors, several of whom I have had conversations outside of class with about things like my spiritual life. And they all know me by name. Anyone who has been through four or more legitimate years of college should at least be able to spell and capitalize. I know some kids use text mode for all correspondence, but it's pure laziness and many use it because they don't even know proper grammar and writing standards.
