While popularity is a factor to some, most people have stopped caring about what their classmates think of them. It's a friendlier environment for the most part. Also, my studies interest me. Anyone who has been through four or more legitimate years of college should at least be able to spell and capitalize. I know some kids use text mode for all correspondence, but it's pure laziness and many use it because they don't even know proper grammar and writing standards.
